Name: Reuben Hudson

Position: Maintenance engineer apprentice

How long have you been an apprentice for?

I am currently in my 3rd and final year of the apprenticeship.

What course or courses are you studying alongside working?

Within our apprenticeship scheme we have 10 units to complete which include a wide range of skills. For example, mechanical, electrical, control systems (PLC) and robot programming to name a few.

What is a day in the life of an apprentice about for you?

A normal day would be spending time on the shop floor attending breakdowns and getting experience with my job. Alongside this, I would block out some time to focus on my apprenticeship work. This would involve doing assessments, for example, a gearbox change, and writing knowledge questions on each unit.

What about the job and course is it you like?

The job in general is fun because it is very practical and hands on which is something I enjoy. Personally, I would say my favourite courses are robot programming and PLC because I find it fun how you can make a robot move and literally do anything you tell it to do.

What is it like being a part of the FMUK Team?

Being part of the FMUK team is very good as there are different people who are strong at different skills so I can go to different people for help and gain knowledge and skills.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

In 5 years’ time I see myself being an important part of the maintenance team here within FMUK.
